Area Commissioner NeededSunset Area needs a new Area Commissioner immediately! If you are interested or know someone who is, please contact the Northern Ontario Council Commissioner, Ralph Jenkins. You can contact him through the Northern Ontario Council website: Sunset Area Scouts InformationThe Sunset Area is part of the Northern Ontario Council which is part of Scouts Canada. The Sunset Area stretches from White Otter Lake north to McKenzie Island, and from English River west to Vermilion Bay on Highway 17. This area, famous for gold mines and canoeing adventures, includes the towns of Ignace, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Ear Falls, Red Lake and Cochenour. 18-Wheeler Rally in KenoraThe Ear Falls Scouts travelled to Kenora to race their 18-Wheelers. The Scouts all came home with one prize or another thanks to the great efforts of the Kenora Scouting groups. In the afternoon, the Scouts were able to get their feet wet in the Michael Smith pool. Remembrance Day 2007Greetings all Scouters from Northwestern ON. Yours in Scouting Todd Martelle aka: "Akella"
Last Ear Falls Crest 25 Years AgoThe last time the Ear Falls Scouts had a group crest made was in 1982. Just today, we received a shipment of our new group crests. The badge includes a moonlit scene with a bald eagle in flight. Ear Falls is the self-proclaimed bald-eagle capital of North America. The lake and forest scene is, of course, reminiscent of most of the landscape up here. The beavers, cubs and scouts should soon be wearing these badges proudly. See if you can spot an Ear Falls member the next time you see someone in uniform. Ear Falls Scouts Participate in Remembrance DayThe Ear Falls Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers participated in the Remembrance Day Service at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 238 on November 11. Four Scouts helped set up the wreaths for the service the night before, and they practised laying the wreaths for the ceremony on the 11th. One of the Venturers read the scripture for the service. See more pictures in the gallery. Group Commissioners 2007-2008The following people are the group commissioners in the Sunset Area: Cochenour: Marc Lauzier Registration SimplifiedYouth 17 years and younger
Adults 18 years and older who were fully registered last year Ear Falls Scouts Camp at Old HomesteadThe Ear Falls Scouts camped on the Ear Falls Hiking Trails on October 26-28 near the old haunted home of the Walkers (or at least this was the story we told). Six Scouts were invested at this camp out. They learned how to light fires and stoves and many other camping skills. After hours of playing games, it was a good thing that they had the Monday off of school to catch up on their sleep. This first camp of the year represented 43 out of 100 hours of their Centennial challenge to camp 100 hours.
